But somehow I doubt it since Microsoft doesn't seem to accept that there is any real problem with Vista and IE7. Could you please check if any associated error message in event log when this problem occues? If so, please post it for further reseach. Faulting application iexplore. I'm doing a fair bit of research at present which does involve opening multiple Tabs so that I can easily make quick cross-reference checks, between multiple entries.
What little hair remains on my cranium is being reduced somewhat proportional to the time spent with multiple tabs open in IE7. The subsequent loss of all reference material when "Internet Explorer has stopped working", rears its ugly head, Thank goodness there is no need to use multiple tabs in the preparation of this release of steam.
My credentials? I'm just your basic retired silly old fart, who potters around using this here PC [my first ever, and now with about 11 months experience in this media], so in essence, there ain't no way that I would even attempt some of the recommended 'fixes'. The webpage would expire before I got even halfway through. So where to now? Yes I did think that there was some Malware etc in my system, and with the assistance of some very nice MS Techs, have managed to use a plethora of scans and checks to ensure thet nasties are a no-no in my system That leaves me with just one option to question I don't have facial recognition, but my eye-sight is still reasonably good enough for me to recognise my own face, even without my spectacles.
Any offers to rid me of this sorely pestilance? Am really sorry that you're having this ongoing problem with IE tabs. I do know how frustrating that can be. The password keeper software I refered to comes only on the new Lenovo Ideapad computers. It isn't something you can go buy and probably is tied very tightly to the hardware of these Lenovo notebook computers. In essence it is software that peers at you through the built-in camera of the notebook and identifies you via facial recognition software - thereby eliminating the need to enter your password via the keyboard.
It is actually pretty neat for the initial login - as you get the impression that your notebook recognizes you! But Lenovo took this concept a bit further in implemenation to involved the "password keeper" aspect of it.
This was an attempt to store your facial picture with every password that you ever entered in IE while working on the internet. As you likely know - that can be hundreds of such password entries.
While enabled the "password keeper" invokes itself whenever a network web site prompts for a password. It does this automatically and in my case I didn't realize it was happening on those tabs that were not in focus. Apparently at least in my case whenever this password keeper would be invoked - it was causing the "IE has stopped working" error.
As this often happened when I had multiple tabs open it took me quite a while and a bit of guesswork to narrow the source of the problem down. I wish you luck with that. I'd suggest disabling most of the odd things you may have running on the taskbar lower right bottom of your screen just to see if that resolves your problem.
It conceivably could be something as simple as a rogue anti-virus or popup blocker add-on that gets invoked at seemingly random times and causes the IE failure.
You might try FireFox by Mozilla as an alternative workaround. It too has tabbed browsing and if it doesn't break then maybe it could solve your problem. This is really Joe90 90, but in my new guise as v2, because I couldn't figure out the 'right' way to get into this forum to respond to your welcome and prompt response, other than create a new ID for myself.
So now I have someone else to talk with -"Joe90 90 to Joe90 90v2. First of all, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you [with appropriate tugging of now sparse remnant fore-lock At last someone has provided an answer that is actually composed in English, and which I understand.
Your suggestions are noted, especially those regarding pop-ups, and I intend to start the recovery by enabling them for those research sites where I am certain that they do not 'pop-up'. I will also certainly note the series of tabs that I have open when the failure occurs by checking my links back through my day's History, to try and determine common websites or pages links.
That's about as much as I can do with my limited degree of experience. Your suggestion of FireFox by Mozilla is noted, and if all else fails, it will become a serious contender for the position recently vacated by Internet Explorer. I have the same problem Hawk was talking about, only I can get the problem with just one window and one tab open.
Here's the crazy part, this is a fresh install of Vista Ultimate with sp1 on the image. I have even tried to redownload the image and reburn it to dvd, but have the same problem. I also notice that changes are not saved on reboot. Changes like desktop resolution and changes in msconfig. I also notice that on every reboot, chckdsk runs. One other thing I noticed is that clicking on start and then programs has a serious delay, clicking further under programs is even slower. Now here's the really weird part.
I wiped the partition out and installed vista ultimate without sp1 and no issues at all. Any ideas? Sure, I could easily just go back and install Vista Ultimate without the service pack, but hey, I'm an IT guy, I gotta get the issue resolved. Office Office Exchange Server.
