Keep the line tight and make uniform wraps around the spool. Leave 5 inches of the line free and pull it down through the lock notch on the side of the spool to hold it in place during installation.
Slide the spring and spool back onto the trimmer head, lining up the notch on the spool with the one on the head as you go. Press down on the spool to compress the spring slightly and screw on the tap button in a clockwise direction.
